Fight Night?

It seems that there is always something new going on in the education arena. This time, though, a teacher took that idea literally. In Los Angeles a substitute teacher for a probation camp decided to make let the juveniles fight and to regulate the fights. Although there are plenty of times that there a fights in the classroom and teachers do not jump in but call security to handle the issue, I have never heard of this. Up until this point I have seen a lot of different situations that teachers did not act appropriately, this somehow is a whole new blow, literally.

Here is a link to the article: Teacher Busted For Running Fight Club With Students

At the end of the day if you are not ready to uphold a good morale standing please do not place yourself in the life of children. Being a parent is different than being a teacher, and vice versa. Many times people feel that they can do both but it is not the same. There are a lot of boundaries that teachers can not cross and it seems to be getting blurred.

Although the students that were in this facility are more prone to violence does not mean that a fight club. I am not sure as to where the world will end up but I do know that I do not want to be like any of these educators that have failed the system of education.

That is all. I am lost by the actions of these people.

America's Most Wanted adds Day Care Owner

Everyday something new is going on in the world. From Monday through Friday something new is happening every five seconds at the Daycare/ Preschool that I work in. We have to ensure the children's safety no matter what they do or how they do it, but that is our job and in all cases that is the job of every capable adult around the world. They are our future... But i think that everyone could understand my outrage when I woke up this morning picked up my phone and read the article from CNN that was entitled, Owner of Texas day care, site of fatal fire, now among 'most wanted' .

Read the article for yourself, I will always recommend that since this is my opinion and all the details are sometimes left out.  Even though I thought it was a joke or going to explain that this was a misunderstanding it did none of those things. This article demonstrate what most daycare providers fear, that not everyone who work in the child care field can be trusted. She left seven children unattended in her home, which is her daycare facility, to go to the grocery store. Unfortunately for her this time, she left a pot on the stove with oil, causing a fire to start. Due to the fact that she ran she has several charges against her placing her on the Most Wanted List, she is actually in the top 15 at the moment.

Heart Warming Email

show details Jan 24 (5 days ago)
Hi Whitney,
I got your note to send my email address if I wanted your pics of "Big-E".  Unfortunately, I missed the part of your note to send my email the next day!  I had the paper with your note in front of the computer, where "Big-E" found it this weekend & brought it to me, I read it again & thought, Oh no!  I want those pictures!!
So I understand if you have already gotten rid of said-pics, but I would love copies of them if you still have them.

I hope you had a great weekend.  We so miss not seeing you in the mornings & afternoons.  It was such a difficult decision to switch "Big-E"'s school.  I wanted to explicitly tell you that our decision has absolutely nothing to do with you; in fact, you have kept us from moving forward on our decision for about 4 months (however long you've been at Miss LeAndra's).  We found this school when "Big-E"'s last teacher was there & then we delayed it when we met you.  So I just wanted to make sure you knew that.  You are amazing, Whitney.  With the kids, with the parents, all the way around.  You are someone, I feel, who has truly found their calling.  You will touch many children's lives through your career & we feel extremely fortunate that you were able to teach and love "Big-E" all these months.  You have played a big part in why he is as sweet & advanced as we feel he is!! :-)

I'm not sure when "Big-E" will be back to daycare this week.  We had to go to Peds After Hours yesterday because "Big-E" was wheezing and having difficulty breathing; they're afraid he has pneumonia again, and he has a double ear infection.  :-(  That stinking runny nose he got on Friday developed into this.  Boo!!  I will keep you posted after we go to his dr today.

I hope you had/have a good Monday.  Take care,
"Big-E"'s Mom

This email is an example of something that I cannot even put into words. It warmed my heart and gave me a lot of confidence in my abilities as an educator. A lot of times when I doubt myself I know that I will look at this email and feel warm and completely fuzzy.

Thank you =)  And to note I love "Big-E" no matter where he goes. He is part of my very first class as a teacher.

Teaching Made Easy

The title is a lie! There is no such thing but what I have learned from my "butterflies" is that even at one children know a lot more than people would ever imagine. And as much as I love poetry and music,so do my beautiful "butterflies". So here are some songs that I have made up and use in the "Butterfly Class" for the "butterflies".

  • Colors
    • Green is go
    • Blue is cold
    • Yellow means slow down
    • Orange is hot!
    • Brown is mud
    • White is the color of the clouds
    • Black is night
    • Red means stop!
    • That's how the colors go
  • Time to Eat
    • It's time to eat, eat eat
    • It's time to eat, eat ,eat
    • (use in conjunction with the sign for eat in sign language and sing the song until the children learn that it's time to sit and eat.)
  •  Clean up
  • Come on Ride the Train
